A city of exceptions
San Francisco doesn't have many residential pools — which makes the ones that exist genuinely special: mid-century installations in St. Francis Wood and Forest Hill, hidden courtyard pools in Noe Valley, indoor and half-covered oddities the city's architects loved to attempt. Most have decades on their surfaces and equipment, and renovating them takes a contractor comfortable with the city's logistics: rear yards reached through the house or over it, close neighbors, and DBI permitting.
Our SF renovations run the full scope — chip-out replaster, waterline tile, coping, silent modern equipment sized for small urban equipment closets — and where an unheated full-size pool no longer fits how you live, we'll talk honestly about converting part of it to a heated plunge or spa. Warm water earns its keep in the fog belt; cold water mostly doesn't.
Typical ranges we quote: San Francisco renovations average $60,000 and up, with full remodels and conversions averaging $75,000–$140,000 — city access and craneage can carry projects higher. Designs, pricing and estimates are always free, itemized line by line.
Proper mechanical removal and a managed cure — the foundation of every city renovation.
Waterline tile, stone or precast coping and terrace surfaces brought up to the house's standard.
Downsizing a cold, unused pool into a heated plunge or spa that gets used year-round.
Quiet variable-speed pumps and heaters that fit SF's tight side yards and closer neighbors.
Through-the-house protection, crane days and neighbor-aware scheduling — planned and priced up front.
Plans, engineering and San Francisco's permit process managed end to end, timelines set honestly.
Typical ranges we quote average $60,000 and up, with full remodels and plunge/spa conversions averaging $75,000–$140,000. City access, craneage and premium finishes can run higher — estimates are free and every line is itemized.
Three honest paths: renovate it as-is, convert part of it to a heated plunge or spa you'll actually use, or decommission it properly. We'll price the first two and tell you straight which fits your yard and climate exposure.
Through the house with full protection, or over the roof by crane — we scope the route on the first visit and the quote includes it. It's routine city work, not an upcharge surprise.
Longer than suburban cities — typically a few months depending on scope and review. We prepare complete plans to minimize cycles and build the timeline into the schedule honestly.

"We scheduled an appointment to replace our Haywood heater and after seeing their worked, we asked about our pool tiles that have fallen off and were loose. They drained the pool & spa down a bit and took care of it. Yippee, they brought new life back into our 20 year old pool! We highly recommend Creative Edge Pools & Spas for any pool repairs. I was completely impressed with their work. A job well done! Alice Hill"
